Destinations: Yangon – Bago – Kyaikhtiyo

Day 01: Yangon Arrival (L)

Upon arrival, pick up and transfer to hotel for check in. In the afternoon, begin with an orientation tour of Yangon’s highlights including the old colonial style city centre with the glittering 2000-year-old Sule Pagoda and enjoy a walk around tranquil Mahabandoola Park with Independence Monument to take in the colonial courthouse and city hall. Afterward, you will visit the Chaukhtatgyi Pagoda which houses a 72-meter reclining Buddha statue and next go to Kandawgyi Park. Here you will see the glittering Karaweik barge, a replica of the royal barge, and the vast lake with views of Shwedagon in the background. Take photographs over the water towards Karaweik. From here, continue to the famed 2500-year-old Shwedagone Pagoda before your Yangon experience ends. Watch the sun cast its rays over the temple at sunset. Overnight in Yangon.

Day 02: Yangon – Bago – Kyaikhtiyo (Golden Rock) (B, L)

Traveling by road to Kyaikhtiyo (a 4-to 5-hour drive), a massive boulder covered in delicate gold leaf and said to hold a hair of the Buddha that balances on the edge of a cliff at the top of Mt. Kyaikto, “appears to be falling off a cliff”. En-route you will have a stop in Bago where you will visit to the huge 55-meter long Shwethalaung reclining Buddha image, the Mon style 376ft-high Shwemawdaw Pagoda and Kyaikpun pagoda which consists of four 30m-high sitting Buddha placed back-to-back around a huge, square pillar. Continue to Kyaikhtiyo Kinpun base camp. From the base camp, ride one of the large open trucks with wooden salts for benches along a winding road to Golden Rock. At the top, head for one of the best spots from which to have magnificent natural scenery, watch the people offer flowers and incense to this sacred site and listen to the monks’ chants. Check in at a hotel near Golden Rock where you are able to catch sunrise or sunset, contemplating how the bright glare of afternoon, the soft light of dusk and descending darkness of evening change the appearance of the Golden Rock over the course of hours. Overnight in Kyaikhtiyo.
